Why Suits Is The Best Show

Image
Today I thought I would write about what is, in my opinion, the best series on TV. Suits, if you haven't heard of it, is a legal drama about a law firm in New York. I could write pages on what I love about the show, but I've narrowed it down to my top few reasons because I'm sure you don't want to read pages of me fangirling.  - The characters are incredible. Every character in the show has such a distinct character, and you just fall in love with some of them (I want my very own Louis Litt). Seeing how powerful Harvey Specter and Jessica Pearson are provides so much motivation to be successful in life. That seems really weird (I do know the story is made up) but there are people like that in the world and it would be amazing to be like them. - It's not just about corporate men in suits, feminism is a strong theme in the show. Jessica Pearson symbolises how powerful women can be. There is this idea that for certain ages, races and genders there is a 'gla...

Brussels (with special introduction from Sir Gibbons)

Image
Neil Gibbons guest writer: "The Drunk in the queue" Upon arrival in Belgium, I was conscripted by Mrs Willis to aid in the acquisition of travel cards (I can string a sentence together in French). She and I thus proceeded to the Information centre. This is itself was quite the ordeal as we had to battle our way through a crowd of confused English tourists walking in all directions in search of the same information centre. We made it through, where it so happened that I was not needed as the man in the booth spoke perfect English. As he and Mrs Willis spoke, I watched as a drunk man stumbled over, bumping into everyone in the queue, finally pushing in front of Mrs Willis as she continued to speak to the guide. The drunk, whilst eating and dropping oatcakes from a large bag he had, took a single earring from his pocket and offered it to the guide. The guide calmly refused the earring and waited a moment until the drunk reliased he was not welcome. We then found out where...

My Ticket Wall

Image
The USP of my room is definitely my wardrobe door, where stuck are most of my tickets for major events that have happened in the last few years. I don't really know where I got the idea from, I just thought my doors looked too boring. Anyway, it would take hours to write about every single one, so I'll just tell you about a few of my favourites.. My ticket to see the Broadway show 'The Glass Menagerie' in New York. We went to see Pippin as well on Halloween (which I thought was a lot better than this one) but it was still a great experience, and it was interesting because there were literally 4 actors in the whole play! This train ticket was for the day I went to dance at Husky Studios. Honestly, I only went because Lukas Mcfarlane was running a class, and he is one of my favourite contemporary dancers. Not only did I get to dance with him which was an amazing experience, HE HUGGED ME TOO!!! My ticket to the cable cars to see the Barcelona sky line....

The Ultimate Lazy Persons Guide To Dessert

Image
It's safe to say I have a huge sweet tooth and love baking. But I'm also incredibly lazy and hate long complicated recipes. Can't be bothered to bake but crave something sweet? Have an almost empty fridge? Years of searching for minimal recipes has boiled down to these brilliant ideas. Most of these recipes are my own adapted versions, but the two recipes with Nutella in I have altered from kirbiescravings. Hereth lies my ultimate guide (all 5 ingredients or less): 1) Flourless Nutella Cake What you need: 4 large eggs, 240g Nutella What to do: Beat the eggs on the highest speed in a mixer for about 6 minutes until it has tripled in volume (essential that it triples in volume otherwise the recipe won't work).  Melt the Nutella in the microwave in a large glass bowl for around 20 seconds. Add 1/3 of the egg mixture in a gently stir until no egg mixture remains. Do this for another 1/3 of the egg mixture. And the last 1/3. You must do it in 3 batches ot...

2015 Book Challenge

Image
This year I've decided I need to read more books, on account of how shamefully little I read last year. My most read were Jekyll and Hyde and To Kill A Mockingbird, purely for the purpose of exams... But I thought I would mix it up a bit, seeing as it's 2015 and all that. I saw this challenge whilst reading another blog last week, so I thought I would try it out. I don't know how far I will actually get, but I will try anyway! A book I've been meaning to read-  'The Host' by Stephanie Meyer has been sitting on my book shelf since summer. I have been meaning to read it, but I keep finding other books I'd rather read so it gets pushed to the bottom of the pile.. A book published this year- The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins. I don't know much about this book, but has been compared to Gone Girl and apparently is even better! I loved Gone Girl so hopefully I will love this too. A book in the genre I don't typically re...

Embarassing Bus Moments

I'm sure some of you will relate when I say that about 80% of embarrassing times in my life have been on the bus. An inevitable part of life, some would say. I've narrowed it down to my top 5 embarrassing times, although I could go on and on... 1) My most common, and very unfortunate, problem is when I fall over as the bus is moving-or even when it's still. Why is it that bus drivers decide to speed up exactly at the time you're trying to walk down the aisle? A few weeks ago I ended up apologising profusely to an old lady for sitting on her lap. Poor woman didn't know what hit her. 2) When the bus is really busy and I am sitting towards the back, there is the dreaded moment when it gets to my stop and I have to push past a sea of people up get out. It's that awkward bum contact whilst swishing past that does it for me ...  3) Walking on the bus with multiple bags is also a nightmare. It ends up in bruising people's shoulders- or I suppose in my case...

Hitting The Road

Image
So I woke up on a frosty Saturday morning last weekend after a mere 3 hours of slumber (couldn't sleep- subconsciously anxious I was going to crash in the driving lesson??) to 35mph winds and heavy rain. First time driving was going to be interesting.... I suppose the good thing about the awful weather was that the streets were pretty empty. I wasn't nervous up until the point where I actually sat in the driver seat, but I did have these fears in the back of my mind... Fear number one: STALLING. It's all you hear about from your friends- 'OMG I stalled on a roundabout it was so scary'- so I spent the whole lesson releasing the clutch so slowly I spent more time letting it go than actually driving!  An hour and a half in when my instructor said 'I'm impressed you haven't stalled yet did I stall immediately after. But hey, once on your first lesson is not bad going! So I learnt the trick is to release the clutch quickly at first, then slow down ...
